Following donated items will help keep expenses down and keep these programs going: Folgers Classic Coffee regular, laundry detergent, Dawn dish soap, paper towels, 8 ½ x 11” reams of printing paper, 40-50 gallon garbage bags, first-class stamps, black pepper, HP office jet 4500 ink cartridge. Meals on Wheels receives approximately 40 percent of the actual cost for the meals from state and federal government and the remaining amount comes from local sources. Vermillion Area Community Foundation updated grant application information: Beginning this year, there are only two grant periods: The second Thursday in April and the second Thursday in October. Grant applications for the second session are due by Sept. 15. Grant guidelines can be found at http://vermillion.sdcomm unityfoundation.org or applications can be picked up at the VCDC, 116 Market St. The City of Vermillion seeks stakeholder input for 2035 Comprehensive Plan: In September 2013 the Vermillion Planning Commission began the process to update Vermillion’s Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan is a significant land use policy document that creates a road map for the future development and growth of Vermillion. The Planning Commission will be holding a series of meetings in the coming weeks and would like to invite citizens and community stakeholders to be a part of the discussion. Focusing primarily on land uses, the Comprehensive Plan will provide a long-term vision for the community and the steps that need to be taken in order to accomplish that vision. An adopted comprehensive plan is a key tool used by the City Council, Planning Commission, and other policy bodies to make decisions regarding land use, facility needs, amenities, public services, economic development and many other projects requiring public and private investment. Public input is welcome and citizens are encouraged to attend.
