8 Broadcaster Press December 25, 2018 www.broadcasteronline.com DECEMBER 2018 VERMILLION.K12.SD.US VERMILLION HIGH SCHOOL’S STUDENT NEWSPAPER In the Spirit of Giving by MADDI KALLSEN E very year, the Vermillion High School, along with other leading businesses, donate necessities to people in need. Things donated include hats, gloves, socks and hygiene products like soap, tooth paste, and other necessities not everyone has access to. NHS has teamed up with the food pantry in order to get as many donations as possible for the community. Donation drives help the community thrive and help keep a sense of wellbeing throughout the town. A lot of people participate in donating. Logan Wadley, the National Honors Society president, stated, “Our goal in the Giving Tree is to provide families in need with necessities in order to help the community.” On the twelfth of December NHS handed out hats and gloves and saw the direct impact of the donations and how much they help people. All involved were grateful for the opportunity to get out and help. Christmas is a time for joy, love and fun, but unfortunately not everyone has what they need. As a community, it’s important to unite and team up to help each other, especially when we need it most. Christmas is a time for giving which is the exact goal of the giving tree donation drive. FALL SHOW ENTERTAINS ONCE AGAIN by KALIE PUCKETT T he weekend before Thanksgiving our Music Department held their annual Fall Show featuring Rhythm in Red, Music in Motion and Jazz band. It started out with Music in Motion, the Vermillion Middle School show choir, showing off they’re groovy moves. They took their show on the road and performed at multiple competitions in the area. This year past show choir alumni Savannah Kirsch is helping choreograph all their dances! After the middle schoolers showed off their moves, the Jazz band took the stage led by our new band director, Garrett Olson. They played the songs Little brown Jug and Africa by Toto. It was TOTOally worth watching! Last but not least, we had our very own Rhythm in Red perform. Some of the songs they performed were taught by students who were lucky enough to go to the Show Choir Camps of America, a camp for kids in show choir. They were taught everything they needed to know at the camp and brought it back Thank you to our valued Customers, Neighbors and Friends! to show their own choir. The Rhythm in Red students dazzled us with their sparkly, silver dresses, and snazzy suits. Watching them dance was mesmerizing, especially when the light would hit them just right. This year they get to travel to many places including Kansas City. They’ll perform their show at a variety of competitions and schools. Good luck to them and to Mrs. Fischer. Without her the show couldn’t go on! . Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Wakonda, SD 605-267-2088 Vermillion | 605.624.4461 |CorTrustBank.com The boys and Girls basketball teams this year both have a total of 20 games. Thirteen of them are double headers. Our girls team has two seniors, Kasey Herbster and Rachel brady. Kasey said, “Our team is built on two or three really good players but we have a whole team of okay players, and if we all work at 100 percent we will be good.” Rachel believes, “Our team is going to surprise a lot of people. We have a lot of drive, speed, and talent.” The boys team has one senior, Justin Sorenson. The boys basketball team has a lot of young, talented players. We wish them luck this season! Their next home double header is January 4th. It would greatly be appreciated if everyone could help us cheer on both of our basketball teams! The entire school is eager for this new season of sports! CALENDAR December 2018 21 NO SCHOOL- Christmas Break No School Until January 3!!!!
